Laser Mole
Removal
Lots of cosmetic procedures rely on laser
technology for a variety of purposes, from scar treatment
and hair removal to eye surgery and mole treatments.
Although in the majority of such interventions, laser
therapy has proved its superiority as compared to all the
other treatments, there is a downside to laser mole removal
as well.
The problem with such interventions is that the laser can
not get deep enough into the moles so as to eliminate the nevi
from the root. This is the reason why mole regrowth occurs
after such laser mole removal interventions. Nevertheless, the
good part about laser mole removal is that it does not involve
the use of stitches as it happens with traditional cutting.

Laser mole removal is a good option for pigmented nevi. Such
dark-colored formations are genetically inherited or grow after
prolonged exposure to the action of the ultraviolets. Laser
mole removal under the circumstances requires between one and
three laser sessions before the nevi get eliminated.
Moreover, success rates are higher for flat moles rather than
for raised ones because the latter are more difficult to get
penetrated by the light fascicle. Laser mole removal is not
painful: it feels like a tingling or a pinch when the laser
pulses.
During the laser mole removal, the light beam seals the
blood vessels and removes the tissue through evaporation.
Without real skin cuts, the risk of scarring becomes
drastically reduced. A scab appears after the intervention on
the exact spot of the former mole. It will normally take two
weeks before the scab falls, and even if the sensitivity of the
new skin beneath seems higher, redness and irritation will
disappear gradually.
The costs of laser mole removal are pretty high and if
performed for cosmetic purposes, the insurance policy will not
cover them. There are however situations when the insurance
works for such interventions: nevi with a body position prone
to injury and malignant formations will be treated at the
expense of the insurance most of the time. For instance, if you
hurt moles when shaving or combing your hair or because clothes
rub against them then there is a medical concern for their
removal. Talk to the insurance agency and with the
dermatologist for expertise so as to get insurance
coverage.
